Welcome, Corinne Komor!

Department Administrator Corinne Komor joined ICD in May, but her career at the University of Minnesota goes back to her student days! Read on to get to know Corinne and learn about the specialized skills and knowledge she brings to the table. Plus, learn why ICD's mission feels especially relevant to her as a parent of young children.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Originally from Cedarburg in southeastern Wisconsin, I came to Minnesota for college and never wanted to leave. My husband Matt and I moved from St. Paul a few years ago and currently live in Eagan with our two kids Weston (7) and Violet (3) and our Bernese Mountain Dog Walter. My hobbies include tennis, classical ballet, gardening, and voracious binge reading.

What was your previous role before joining ICD?

While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I first gained experience in academia as a part-time student worker in the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics. After graduating in 2007, I accepted an administrator position there where I stayed for eight years, before transitioning to biomedical engineering and then working as a floating administrator for the college. Strong areas of interest and focus for me over the years have been on policy and compliance, as well as research program management. I’ve been a Certified Approver since 2008, and have significant experience in finance and all areas of sponsored projects.

What drew you to this position, and what are you most looking forward to in your new role?

My position in ICD is an exciting opportunity to apply my many years of administrative experience within a new and impactful college. Having worked for so many years in the College of Science and Engineering, including five years as a floating administrator supporting a wide array of departments, I've developed a strong ability to adapt and build rapport with diverse faculty, staff, and students. I very much enjoy building relationships with people and learning more about the variety of inspiring work that goes on here. My background has provided me ample experience in navigating complex academic settings and providing essential support across various administrative areas.

I'm particularly looking forward to immersing myself in the mission and unique culture of ICD. The chance to contribute to an area focused on child development and well-being is incredibly motivating and interesting to me as a parent of two young children. I'm eager to use my skills and collaborative approach to support the vital research, teaching, and outreach efforts here, and to learn from the dedicated people at ICD while contributing to its continued success.

What inspires you most about working to support the fields of early childhood education and developmental psychology?

What truly inspires me about supporting the fields of early childhood education and developmental psychology is their profound impact on shaping the future. As a parent of two young children, I see firsthand every day how crucial these early years are for development and learning. It’s incredibly motivating to be part of a department like ICD that is at the forefront of understanding and enhancing the well-being and growth of children. Now, to apply that passion and expertise to fields that directly contribute to giving children the best possible start in life feels uniquely rewarding. I'm eager to help facilitate the vital research, teaching, and outreach that truly makes a difference in families and communities.

What is your favorite summer activity?

Hanging at the pool with my kids. Or, in the words of Barbie’s Ken: "beach."
